Un Sedicesimo 23

Un Sedicesimo 23 originates from a journey into the present and from memory as its sediment is deposited in our own personal gaze. It focuses on the dialogue between images and words, taking the shape of a notebook recording our daily lives; it is a collection of tracks and traces represented through collages, charcoals drawings, watercolours, shellac and burns. Gianluigi Colin works with the precision of an archaeologist to highlight fragments of words, signs and figures within the fissures of our everyday existence.

Gianluigi Colin was born in Pordenone in 1956. For many years he has been conducting artistic research touching upon two systems that only appear different: words and pictures. His work is an investigation of the meaning of representation, the importance of memory, and the layering of vision.
Using pictures taken primarily from newspapers, he leads us on a journey filled with references to famous figures and current events. His art practice has a deep sense of social and ethical involvement.
Colin himself is an eclectic, and is also Art Director of the Italian daily Corriere della Sera. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is in private collections, museums, and public institutions in Italy and abroad. He lives and works in Milan and Rome.
